Sewing McSewerson

Originally I named this post “work work work” but then the permalink came up as “work-work-work-5” which means I’ve named 4 other posts at some time or another “work work work” so I changed it to Sewing McSewerson. Even though I didn’t actually do any sewing this weekend but I did a lot of embroidery so that counts.

We stayed in pretty much all weekend. Got out Saturday morning and ran to the grocery, Costco, Kohl’s and OFfice Depot but that was it. Yesterday I successfully stayed in my pajamas all day.

There’s going to be a pretty much constant drought of progress photos for Bespin Leia, because otherwise it’s “hey look I finished one of the flowers on the bottom” and then “hey look here’s another flower on the bottom I finished, it looks exactly like the one I posted 2 days ago” and on and on because it’s so repetitive. And I’m jumping around so much that it makes for getting a photo of everything I’ve done at one time impossible.

Stupid flowers:

There’s 25 of these things. See, repetitious? I’ve been really focusing on them because I feel like I’ve got them down and I can just keep powering through them. At the moment I’m only focusing on the exterior, larger part of each of them. Then I’ll go back through and do the interiors. This is mostly due to the fact I don’t feel like I’ve got the shadow stitch quite down yet — I’ve done a couple as a test and I need more practice.

I did do this upper part of one of the side pieces over the weekend:

The side panels are my testing ground, so this was just a test to see how do the straight lines of the spindle-things and the smaller “x”s were going. I’m happy with the spindle things, not so much with the Xs. Need more practice.

Sunday morning my aunt texted me that there was a surprise in my mailbox – she’d dropped off the People commemorative Carrie Fisher edition:

It’s REALLY nice, I haven’t read through it yet but I flipped through just looking at the photos, they’re great. I left it sitting on the coffee table while I worked and I felt like Carrie was judging my stitches the rest of the day.

Luna got real clingy Sunday. Friday she was over on her favourite spot, the floor cushion we keep up on the trunk under the window:

That was the side-eye she was giving me after I meowed at her and woke her up.

Then I had an early nap Sunday — I was up at 7:30 so by 10:30 I was ready for a nap. Luna ended up curling up next to my legs which is pretty rare but really nice.

Then she stayed there ALL DAY. She only got up to go eat.

She watched me work from there. She didn’t even budge as I got up multiple times to go work on something else.

I also worked on my Dolores wig a little. I wanted to darken the roots up so I made a sharpie mix in a spray bottle… but I wasn’t getting enough control or coverage with that so I brought it inside and started applying it with a toothbrush. I did about 5-6 coats – the hair darkens up quite a bit when wet so it was hard to tell if I’d gotten enough on or not. I’d have to let it dry, and then do another coat.

Here it is after the last coat last night before I went to bed:

(Before I left it in the hall bath overnight to dry – didn’t want the cat to decide to start eating it!)

With flash. It looks like a balding elf with it pinned that far back on the head LOL

This morning it looked pretty good but was still a tiny bit damp so we’ll see when I get home.

Tonight I’m going to clean up the house a bit and my sewing room, and focus on getting the sewing on Dolores finished up so I can cross all that off my to-do list.

OH! I almost forgot. Our new printer came in Saturday and I started printing costume pics for my portfolio last night. It’s so exciting, I haven’t done something like this since 2004. Seriously i still have most of the prints I did back in 2004 with the intent on putting them all together in a scrapbook as a portfolio but never finished. Haven’t tried it again since. It’s exciting to be able to physically flip through nice prints of all of my costumes.
